Alliance for Licensing Massage Therapists

Welcome to the home of the Alliance for Licensing Massage Therapists! We are a totally-not-for-profit, grassroots group of Massage Therapists, teachers, students, clients and Minnesota citizens working toward reasonable legislation to regulate the practice of Massage Therapy in Minnesota. We have support from members of several organizations, including the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals (ABMP), International Massage Associations (IMA), National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB), American Medical Massage Therapy Association (AMMTA), and others. We are getting support from the National offices of both ABMP and AMTA, as well as the Minnesota Chapter of AMTA. Our goal is to pass a License law to make Massage Therapists in Minnesota Licensed Massage Therapists (LMTs) with the most progressive legislation in the country, written by Massage Therapists. We believe this will increase access to care for the public, provide a layer of protection to clients by screening out practitioners who are or would be going beyond their ethical boundaries, and will make it easier for practitioners to practice. (See how) This law would also bring Minnesota up to speed with the 41 other states and the District of Columbia who have passed legislation to regulate the practice of Massage Therapy. There are lots of ways anyone can help with the effort, no matter how much extra time you may have. We're glad you're here!

We add New pages and info all the time - Listed here from newest to not so new.

Did you miss the Town Hall Meetings? Wanna know what was presented? We are going to be attempting to upload a video of the presentation onto this site that you can sit back and watch in the comfort of your own home. Check back as we will post an announcement here as soon as it is available, (if we can get it to work!).

If you'd like to find out how to become a part of the Alliance leadership, send us an email, and just ask. We'd love to have you working with us and incorporating your ideas and feedback!

New Online Registration form using SurveyMonkey.
We have transferred our Registration form over to the website service called SurveyMonkey. It is much more user-friendly and a slicker interface than the previous service we had used. If you have already registered, you do not need to re-register. If you have more than one work or home address, as described below, though you can add the additional info with a simple email off of our Contact the Alliance page.

Do you work in more than one place?
If you registered with the Alliance and listed your primary work site for "Work address", but you actually work in more than one place, send us a quick email and give us the addresses for your other worksites. We'll get that info plugged into our Legislative District database, so that you will know the right moment to contact the legislators for all the places you work. This would work for a second residence or rental properties you may own or lease as well, (i.e. have a cabin up north?). The more legislative districts you belong to, the more powerful your voice becomes at the Capitol! So drop us a line and help bring us over the finish line in victory!

Craft the Draft update
- The ALMT Licensure legislation draft is in its final phase. We have a very rough draft that needs to have feedback from the professionals with whom we are working, but then we will be ready to unveil it for the public to scour through to their heart's content. Be sure to check back soon, as we will get it posted as soon as it is ready for public consumption.

Register with the Alliance online!
Go to the Forms, Forms, Forms tab for more information. (Please note if you have already mailed in a paper form, you do not need to register online.) Registering is free and takes only a minute. Or for more information about why registering is so important and how it will be our ultimate key to make this the final push to victory, check our Key to Our Success page.

We have a Q&A page.
We've been getting lots of great questions about how Licensure will work and what impacts it will have on the way we practice Massage Therapy in Minnesota. These questions have been posted on the "
FAQ about Licensure" page along with the answers.

We have a mailing address where any written correspondence can be sent to

Special Note: If you notice any typos or links that do not open, please take a second and zap the Alliance Chair an email and let him know exactly where on the site you saw the problem. This website is maintained by a Massage Therapist, not a webmaster. (In other words if you have a problem in your Infraspinatus I can help you; If however you have a problem with a URL hyperlinking, or a PHP that doesn't interact with your CSS, I have to wait for the experts at the website hosting service to get back to to me!) So thanks for your patience and and for helping us to get all the bugs out of our site.
